Canada
Observations by me.

Leslie Kittelberger

These are all from my 1st trip to Canada, March
2000...

Anyway, this is my 4th day here, so let me tell you a
few of my observations about Toronto, or Canada in
general.

1. Canada is COLD!!!!!!!

2. People don't watch where they're going, so you
always have to swerve to avoid running into them! It's
not that they're being rude and running into you, they
just don't look where they're going! Very bizarre.

3. I'll have to learn Portuguese, because there are a
LOT of Portuguese speakers and hardly any Spanish
speakers. (Although I did find a Spanish language
radio station last night. Would you believe that at
the end of some of his sentences, the DJ said eh?!!!
Even when speaking another language!)

4. The houses are so close to each other that they're
practically on top of each other.

5. You REALLY don't need a car if you live in Toronto.
The public transportation is SO efficient! Besides,
you can walk everywhere anyway.

6. You feel safe on the subway or trolley or bus even
at 1 in the morning!

7. Toronto is like New York City, but better! It has
about 1/2 as many people and is cleaner and safer. (#6
you couldn't say about NY!)

Those are the most important things, I guess! Just
some interesting observations.

OK, a few more observations that I either forgot to
mention on Sunday or that I have made since! About the
Toronto area...

1. The walk signs look WEIRD! They look like little
men walking like an Egyptian. It's hard to explain,
but I'll take a picture of one!

2. The restrooms here are always called "washrooms." I
find that amusing! Although they are also always
called "les toilettes", on account of the French
speakers.

3. People don't seem to flush the toilets in the
"washrooms" too often!

4. The toilet paper is (what I consider to be)
backwards almost everywhere I go! (Are you beginning
to notice that I make a lot of bathroom observations
Hmmm...)

5. Most people seem to wear dark colors and not bright
happy ones. I stand out in my red coat!
6. Everything is "royal" this or "imperial" that, with
a lot of "king" and "queen!"

OK, those are some other weird things that I've
noticed!
